We spoke briefly on Wednesday. He was either truly in better spirits, or was faking it very well for me. I had just received a newsletter from the Team and had so many questions. One story recounted the Kurdish soldiers finding an IED (bomb) planted five feet from J.'s commander (Colonel C.).
I asked J. about it; apparently Col. C. had been sitting there for an hour and a half when it was found.
There wasn't too much to say since we had spoken last, but I was a
little unnerved that J. had to keep leaving the conversation because he
"heard gun fire." Throughout the conversation he noted that it was
getting closer. He eventually had to get off the phone – a helicopter
had landed and he thought it must have something to do with all the
shooting. And that's how we left it. A hurried good-bye and I love you to the muddled tune of war.
Lord grant me the serenity...
